Biography

Jonathan Wilkin holds an MGeol in Geology and Physical Geography from Keele University, graduated in June 2015, and an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience from Heriot-Watt University, graduated in September 2017. During his Master’s project, he worked at the Lyell Centre (Heriot-Watt University/BGS) to analyse marine and terrestrial biomarkers within contourite sediments from the Gulf of Cadiz, sampled during IODP 339.

Jonathan joined the University of Dundee in November 2018, to pursue a PhD in Civil Engineering. His research project, part of the NERC CDT in Oil & Gas, aims to use scaled laboratory experiments to understand how varying turbidity current properties leads to spatial variability in patterns of erosion and deposition in areas of slope break. He then integrates these laboratory findings with data from modern and ancient deep-water systems to better understand how turbidity currents internally produce complex sedimentological patterns.
