Biography
Gillian is Lecturer in Education, in the Division of Education and Society, and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Lecturing includes working across initial teacher education programmes, the MEd programme, and supervising doctoral students. Gillian’s PhD investigated whether-how primary education students are enacting physical literacy-informed physical education during teaching placements. The methodological contribution of how to do and present embodied and entangled research was innovative. Gillian is interested in postqualitative enquiry, sociomaterialism and posthumanism as research approaches. In addition to research methodologies, Gillian’s professional interests include physical literacy, philosophy of education, physical education, Olympic education, and wellbeing.
Gillian completed her initial teacher education at the Scottish School of PE, Sport and Leisure, Moray House College Edinburgh, and further studies at the Universities of Stirling, the Peloponnese, and Dundee. Previous professional posts were in further education, physical education teacher education, secondary, middle and primary schools. Gillian has worked around the UK and current projects include physical literacy and physical education in school curricula in Europe. In spare time, Gillian enjoys swimming in the North Sea, cycling through Dundee docks, walking and music.
