Biography

Dr. Md Ashraful Islam Shahed is a medical doctor and academic researcher specializing in surgery and surgical innovation. He obtained his MBBS from Dhaka University, followed by an internship in medicine, gynaecology, and surgery. He then pursued postgraduate training in general and colorectal surgery at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, and broadened his expertise through clinical attachments in the United Kingdom across cardiothoracic surgery, emergency medicine, colorectal surgery, and ENT at leading hospitals including Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London.

In 2023, Dr. Shahed completed an MSc in Surgical Innovation (Clinical Pathway) at Imperial College London, gaining training in systematic reviews, statistical modelling, simulation, and advanced research methodologies, with a particular focus on integrating technology into surgical practice and education. He is also a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS).

His current research centres on surgical anatomy and innovation, particularly anatomical variations of the hip joint and their implications for total hip arthroplasty. His work incorporates cadaveric dissection, CT/MRI-based morphometric analysis, 3D reconstruction, and novel applications of 3D printing and augmented/virtual reality in surgical training.

Dr. Shahed’s long-term goal is to advance anatomy-driven surgical innovation, combining clinical expertise, technological integration, and education to enhance surgical outcomes and training.
