About us

The University Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery (UDOTS) is a world-renowned orthopaedic and rehabilitation Centre that prides itself in teaching and supervising students from across the world on various programmes. We are based in a purpose-built unit, with a unique blend of surgeons, bioengineers, and allied healthcare professionals.

We have a long tradition of research in the field of mechanisms of disease, treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal system, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, gait and motion analysis, and sports and rehabilitation. Our Gait and Motion Analysis labs are state-of-the-art and we have close links with the NHS Orthopaedic Department and Tayside Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Centre (TORT) at Ninewells Hospital.

The current Director of UDOTS is Professor Arpit Jariwala, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at NHS Tayside.
