You will explore professionalism in the social work context. You will cover the integration of codes of ethics/practice and the place of relationship-based social work. This is a practice-based module, but your focus will also be put on thinking and learning.

You will have your first, short 'Readiness to Practice' placement as part of this module. This will help you prepare for your first piece of assessed practice in your third year of study.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn to integrate the codes of practice/ethics into your practice
  • explore how relationship-based practice and professionalism can fit together, touching on professional boundaries
  • learn to show that you are 'ready to practice'
  • learn more about the roles a social worker might have in different contexts

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand how your developing professional skills link to the Standards in Social Work Education (SiSWE) and Key Capabilities
  • have a basic understanding of models and methods of assessment and intervention with service users
  • show a greater understanding of professionalism
  • show skills in finding and reading social work literature. You will also be able to then understand, analyse, and apply it to your practice

    • to support your learning towards the final assignment
  • formative assessment for 'Readiness the Practice' placement
    • assessed by your practice supervisor

You will also take part in three weeks of practice in an agency, with a subsequent analysis of your experience there.
