Professional Practice is a central element of the PGDE Programme. This third and final Professional Practice is a 6 week placement in semester 2 (April).

The Professional Practice modules provide you with opportunities to deepen your understanding of educational theories, concepts, and principles in practice. You will develop and consolidate skills and knowledge and demonstrate your progress towards the GTCS Standard for Provisional Registration (SPR) to a satisfactory standard for your current stage of development.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- develop an understanding of the curriculum at all stages within the relevant sector and your role in meeting the needs of all learners
- develop a deepening understanding of the role of the teacher, the life of the school, and the opportunities to help learners to develop
- access curricular information and draw from appropriate educational literature and policy to inform and sustain your teaching in the relevant stages
- critically reflect on your practice in order to evaluate your effectiveness and take responsibility for your continuing professional development
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- demonstrate your progress towards the GTCS Standard for Provisional Registration (SPR) to a satisfactory standard for your current stage of development
- demonstrate a range of understanding, knowledge, and competence to allow you to undertake successfully a probationary period leading to full registration
Assignments / assessment
You will be assessed summatively by both a university tutor and the school with an overall grade of satisfactory or unsatisfactory against the areas of the Standards for Provisional Registration (SPR) (100%).
Teaching methods / timetable
You will learn through focused teaching, tutorials and your Professional Practice Placement

- take place across the year with your professional practice tutor in small student groups

- 6 week school placement
- Placement Briefing
- you will be briefed about placement requirements and expectations
- Recall Day
- you will return to university for a Recall Day during placement to have an opportunity to reflect on your practice and meet with your tutor.
