Neuroanatomy describes the structure and organization of the human nervous system.

You will explore mechanisms of brain development. This will cover a developmental perspective and the structure and organisation of the central nervous system.

You will also explore selected parts of the peripheral nervous system. You will also investigate common disorders of the nervous system.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • discuss the structural and functional organisation of the central nervous system
  • describe the roles of some of the molecular cues involved in the development of the brain

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • relate the anatomy of the central nervous system to pathophysiological or pathological processes
  • communicate scientific ideas

Assignments / assessment

  • essay (10%)
  • quizzes assessing practical class material (10%)
  • unseen written exam (60%)
  • practical exam (20%)

Teaching methods / timetable

  • lectures
  • practical classes
  • tutorials

Tutorials and practical classes will allow you to work together in small groups.
