Communicating for Psychology module (AG11081)
Build the academic reading and writing skills needed to succeed in postgraduate Psychology study
Effective academic communication is central to success in postgraduate study. This module develops the reading and writing skills that underpin work in Psychology, from understanding complex academic texts to writing clearly argued, well-evidenced essays and reports.
You will build your discipline-specific vocabulary, practise reading strategies for a range of text types, and develop your writing from sentence to whole-text level. The module pays particular attention to argumentation, source synthesis, and academic conventions.
Classes are interactive and discussion-based, drawing on authentic Psychology texts and tasks. You will work both independently and collaboratively, with regular formative feedback throughout the semester.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- develop the academic reading and writing skills needed for postgraduate study in Psychology
- build critical literacy, including the ability to analyse, synthesise, and evaluate academic sources
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- produce well-structured academic writing with clear argumentation and appropriate supporting detail
- synthesise and evaluate information from multiple sources in a discipline-appropriate way
- use academic language and conventions accurately, including ethical and appropriate citation practices
