Biography

I grew up in South Africa, and studied at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, where I obtained an MEd in English Second Language and qualified as a Secondary School teacher. I spent two years as a Secondary School English teacher before returning to Rhodes University as a Junior Researcher in the Institute for the Study of English in Africa. I then moved to the University of Zululand where I worked as an Academic Development practitioner before moving to the UK. I taught English for Academic Purposes at the universities of Keele, Newcastle, and Abertay before moving to the University of Dundee where I now manage the unit of English for International Students. My particular teaching interests are academic literacy and vocabulary development.
