All students are strongly encouraged to register with a local GP for a full range of medical services.

University Doctor

Ideally, you should see your own doctor (GP) for healthcare, especially if you have a long-term condition. However, if you are not registered or having difficulty getting an appointment the University doctor may be able to help with the following:

  • Minor illnesses/injuries
  • General Health advice
  • Mental ill health

The doctor is unable to issue prescriptions but treatment for minor illnesses and infections can be arranged.

Request an appointment with the University Doctor

We hold two clinics a week, run by Dr Panna Muqit (MBBS, MRCGP, DRCOG). The clinics are by appointment only and you can email us to book an appointment at

Our Admin staff may contact you for further information so that the University doctor can assess if they are the correct person to see or to advise which service would be more appropriate.

Information regarding any appointment will be stored in accordance with our privacy notice.

University Mental Health Nursing Service

This is not an emergency response service

If you are having suicidal thoughts and have active plans to end your life it is important that you speak to someone now using NHS 24.

You can also speak with your doctor, a tutor, a friend, or a relative.

It is important that you get the right support from the right service to meet your current needs.

  • If you are experiencing distress arising from life events;
    for example, relationship break-up, bereavement, and study stresses. Please see the mental health support guide
  • If you are likely to need longer-term or intensive support;
    you should make an appointment to see your own doctor to discuss an alternative service.
  • If you are currently supported by a mental health professional, either NHS or private;
    please contact them for support.
