Change your name, address, or personal details (students)
It's important we have up to date details for our students, it's easy to keep these correct

Update your information on eVision
You can update the following information on your student record by logging in to eVision and selecting My Contact Details:
- Home address: your permanent address (where you live when you are not studying)
- Correspondence address*: Your term-time address (where you live during your studies)
- Personal email
- Mobile phone number
- Emergency and trusted contacts
* If you live in student accommodation, the residences team will update your address automatically once you have moved in.
Change your preferred forename and title
You can change your preferred forename (Known As name) and social title (e.g. Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms, Mx, Ind) without evidence.

Your legal name will be displayed on any official documentation such as degree certificates, transcripts and confirmation letters. Changes to your legal names require additional documentary evidence.
Legal name
If you want to change your legal name, we will need you to provide one of the following:
- Marriage or Civil Partnership Certificate: Where a surname is changed due to marriage or a civil partnership, a copy of the certificate is required.
- Decree Absolute / Final Order: The decree absolute is the legal document that ends a marriage. A final order is the legal document that ends a civil partnership.
- Deed Poll: A deed poll is a legal document that proves a change of name.
- Statutory Declaration: A Statutory Declaration is a written statement of fact that is signed in the presence of:
- a Solicitor
- a Notary of the Public
- a Justice of the Peace
- a Commissioner for Oaths
- a Councillor (Scotland only. Documents on or after 10 December 2007)
- any other qualified person.
For change of name purposes, where an application has been submitted with a statutory declaration, this can be accepted providing that the statutory declaration has been signed in the new name.

Gender status
To change your gender status, please contact us and provide either a:
- full birth certificate in your acquired gender
- passport issued in your acquired gender
- report from a medical practitioner (such as a general practitioner) or a chartered psychologist stating that you have a need to live your life in a different gender

The University of Dundee holds information in line with the Data Protection Act. We have protections in place in our policy, systems, and procedures to ensure any record relating to a previous gender is only made where necessary and such records are protected from inappropriate access or disclosure.

EU and international students
If you have changed your legal name, a valid passport must be given as evidence of name change. If you are a Student visa holder, your student record must match your passport.
It is important to update your immigration documents if your circumstances change.

Not reporting changes within 3 months can lead to fines or visa issues.
