New regulations come into effect on 1 September 2026

The University is introducing a new standardised set of undergraduate regulations, approved by Senate in May 2026, which will come into effect from 1 September 2026 for Academic Year 2026/27.

This change brings together previously separate programme regulations into a single, shorter document, designed to make the rules clearer, easier to navigate, and more consistent across the University. The new regulations are applicable to all Faculties from September 2026.

What's changing?

The University is moving from many programme-specific regulation documents to one standardised set of UG regulations. The new regulations provide a single streamlined set that applies across all programmes, with programme-specific exceptions listed separately in appendices.

Why is this changing?

The Quality and Academic Standards Office began this work in 2024 in collaboration with Schools, with the aim of reducing complexity and duplication, improving clarity, and ensuring parity and consistency of student experience across the University.

Key benefits

The new regulations offer a significantly shorter document (13 pages vs 150+), fair and consistent treatment for all students under the same core rules, and a more accessible, user-friendly structure that is easier to maintain and keep up to date.
