Academic Excellence Bursary 2025/6 (the “Bursary”)

This Key Facts Document sets out the main details of the Bursary, as at date of publication. Application process

  • There is no separate application form for this Bursary. Your eligibility will be based on the information you provide to the University during the application process.
  • Our Admissions Team will use the information provided in the programme application to assess eligibility for this Bursary. Confirmation of the award will be in writing and may be part of the Offer Letter.
  • You must ensure the information in your application and any supporting documentation is correct, complete, accurate and up to date as any award is based on this information. The University of Dundee reserves the right to withdraw this award if you have submitted information which is false, fraudulent, incorrect, or misleading.
  • If you think you should have been awarded this Bursary and have not been notified from either our Admissions Team or Student Funding Team, you must contact our Student Funding Team at [email protected] by the end of Semester 1, so we can review your eligibility.

Who is eligible

You must:

  1. Be resident in the UK and classified by the University of Dundee as an RUK (Rest of UK) Fee paying Undergraduate student.
  2. Be starting your course in September 2025
  3. Studying a first Undergraduate programme (full time). This can be in any of our Schools excluding the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Education & Social Work.
    1. We define students who are “studying a first Undergraduate programme” as any student who has not transferred from another UK Higher Education Institution or who does not already have an Undergraduate degree from any University.
  4. Law (Scots) - Accelerated Graduate Entry LLB and Law (Eng/NI) - Accelerated Graduate Entry LLB are also eligible for this bursary.
  5. Have entry qualifications of AAB or above at A-Level.
  6. If you do not have A-Levels, but meet the other criteria for the Bursary, please review our 32TUgrade equivalencies for other types of qualifications we acceptU32T. If the qualification is not listed on our grade equivalencies, this means we are not able to accept it as an alternative. If you have a combination of qualifications, these will be reviewed on an individual basis.

Award information

  1. The value of this Bursary is £3,000 per year of study, paid in 3 instalments over the academic year. This will usually be by the end of November 2025, February 2026 and April 2026.
  2. Payment of the Bursary is made after enrolment at the University of Dundee. All payment forms sent to the student by our Student Funding Team must be completed within the given timeline. Failure to complete the forms by the deadline may mean you are no longer eligible to receive the Bursary. You do not have to re-apply annually for the Bursary.
  3. This Bursary will be paid for each full year of study at the University of Dundee, for the full duration of the programme.
  4. For periods of Studying Abroad or Placement at any point during study, depending on the length of the trip, you may still be eligible to receive this Bursary whilst away.
  5. Please note, if the Study Abroad or Placement is for a full academic year, you will not be entitled to receive the Bursary for that year.
  6. Payment in subsequent years is dependent on satisfactory progression, which is set and monitored by the University. This is an average of B3 across core modules with no re-sits, under all circumstances.

Key information

  1. This Bursary is applicable in the entry year to the University of Dundee only (September 2025 intake) and cannot be backdated to previous years.
  2. The programme must be a 12-month, 120 credits, full time programme. If the programme is less than 12 months, then you are not eligible for the Bursary.
  3. If you have applied for a Part Time or Distance Learning programme, then you are not eligible for this Bursary.
  4. If your Fee status or any other personal information changes before, during or after matriculation, the University reserves the right to reassess eligibility for scholarships and bursaries and may retract the Bursary Offer should your eligibility have changed.
  5. Should you wish to defer entry to the University of Dundee, the following rules apply:
  • Deferral to a new academic year: Bursary cannot be deferred.
  1. Changes to your programme of study:
  • If you change programme before/during matriculation or after latest start date (30.09.2025), the University of Dundee reserves the right to reassess eligibility for scholarships and bursaries and may withdraw the Bursary Offer should your eligibility have changed.
  • If your Fee status or any other personal information changes before, during or after matriculation, the University of Dundee reserves the right to reassess eligibility for scholarships and bursaries and may retract the Bursary Offer should your eligibility have changed.
  1. All communication with you will be via the online applicant portal (eVision). Types of communication may be:
  • Confirming the Bursary.
  • Informing you that you have not met the criteria to be awarded the Bursary.
  • Requesting further information. The University of Dundee is unable to disclose details of the Bursary to anyone other than you unless you provide your consent for us to do so.
  1. If you are entering a programme on a January start date, rather than September, you are not eligible to receive this Bursary.
  2. The Academic Excellence Bursary can be held in conjunction with other awards, if the programme of study permits, for example, the RUK Bursary and the Discover Dundee Bursary.
  3. If you are a Nursing student, you are eligible for either the Academic Excellence Bursary or The Discover Nursing at Dundee Bursary, not both.
  4. Payment of this Bursary will be suspended during a period of approved leave of absence (temporary withdrawal of studies) where this period covers a whole academic year and may be reinstated on return to full-time study.
  5. Any repeat years of study will be reviewed by our Student Funding Team, in consultation with the school.
  6. The University reserves the right to withdraw the Bursary immediately and without notice where a student is determined by the University to have misled the University about any aspect of eligibility to receive the Bursary.
  7. If you withdraw from the programme, you must notify our Student Funding Team that you are no longer enrolled at the University of Dundee. Under any such circumstances, the University shall be entitled to seek repayment of any portion of the Bursary which may already have been paid to you and you will no longer be entitled to any further payments.
  8. All schorarship and bursary decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
