Athena SWAN is a national network created by the Equality Challenge Unit in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to address gender equality in higher education and research.

Interconnect

Interconnect is a network for women studying science, engineering, technology and the built environment across Scotland.

They run a minimum of 8 interconnect events each year, designed to bring together students with qualified women and employers.

Interconnect can help you find an internship, make career connections and support you throughout your studies. To find out more visit the EQUATE Scotland website.

The University of Dundee Women in STEM (WISTEM) Society

WISTEM was founded with the intention of creating an on-campus community for Women in STEM and bringing awareness about development opportunities as well as reaching out to younger generations. We work alongside the university as well as external organisations including Equate Scotland and Sanctuary Graduates to ensure our members gain access to the best recourses for their professional success.

The WISTEM Society has run a range of events, including professional ones such as ‘My Future Self’ where Frances Ratcliffe, a Charted Civil Engineer for the Fife Council spoke about her journey and experience as a woman in construction. We also have social events that help strengthen the network of women in STEM within the University.  An example was our highly attended Pub Quiz/Crawl Extravaganza, where society members had different rounds of a five round pub quiz in a different pub. This year, we have greatly developed our social media presence by having social media-based projects such as ‘Meet the Committee’ and during British Science Week, we shared stories from Women in STEM in the university on our social media pages.
