Welcome message

I am delighted to welcome you to the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law at the University of Dundee. I know that you have all worked hard to get here, and you have already achieved a great deal.  Much more lies ahead.  You have an exciting journey in front of you and we are delighted that you have chosen Dundee for your studies.

You are joining the largest School at the University (we have over 300 staff and 5000 students) and it is a dynamic, modern, and integrated school that brings together a range of disciplines from across the social sciences, humanities, and related professional programmes. The School comprises five Divisions: Dundee Law School; Education & Society; Energy, Environment & Society; Humanities; and Psychology, and these divisions include an even wider group of subject areas such as languages, community education, geography, environmental science, and politics.   Our mission is to build a high-quality and inspirational environment for education, research and social impact that will be known for its innovative approaches to human, environmental and cultural research, and teaching, and for addressing the major challenges faced by society in their local, national and global contexts. Studying with us gives you the opportunity to take part in this challenge.

The University of Dundee is incredibly proud that it is routinely rated as being one the UK’s top universities for student experience and we are determined that this reputation is maintained.  In all our activities in the School we very much pride ourselves on our strong commitment to the University’s core values of valuing people, working together and with integrity, making a difference and pursuing excellence.  I am therefore sure you will find the School a supportive and collegiate place to study.

Meantime, many congratulations again on coming to Dundee and I very much look forward to meeting you in due course.

With best wishes,

Professor Jeff Blackford

Matriculation (registration)

Matriculation is where you officially register as a student with the University of Dundee, to allow you to attend classes and access facilities such as the Library and My Dundee. You'll be asked to matriculate at the start of every academic year while you are a student.

  • Before you start your course we will send an email to your student email address with a link to eVision.
  • You will be asked to complete a series of steps to confirm some information we hold about you, or enter this information if it was not supplied in your application.
  • Please also take a moment to make sure your address details are correct and up to date. Even if you are staying in temporary accommodation we will need local contact details - your address can be updated in eVision later if you move.
  • You will also need to agree to the University’s Code of Conduct and Declaration.
  • The final stage of the task will confirm you are a fully matriculated student with the University.

You will be able to check your matriculation status via the Student Profile tab.

Your student ID card

Have you uploaded your photo to eVision?

We will tell you how to collect your physical student ID card, which:

  • verifies your status as a student of the University of Dundee
  • provides access to the library and other buildings as required
  • entitles you to a range of student discounts

Once you have received it, you should carry it with you and produce it on request at any time while you are on the University campuses. You should not let anyone else use it.
