Welcome to the Centre for Archive and Information Studies
What you need to do, and when during your first week for your online course.
Welcome to the University of Dundee, we hope you enjoy studying with us. Here is everything you need to know prior to starting your online course.
As a student at the University, you will receive a dundee.ac.uk account for access to the systems and applications you need during your studies.
You should check your email account regularly as University of Dundee correspondence will only be sent to dundee.ac.uk accounts, rather than any personal email addresses. This is in line with our Electronic messaging policy to safeguard the University’s information from security threats.
Matriculation
Matriculation is where you officially register as a student with the University of Dundee, to allow you to access facilities such as My Dundee. You'll be asked to matriculate at the start of every academic year while you are a student.
- Before you start your course we will send an email to your student email address with a link to eVision.
- You will be asked to complete a series of steps to confirm some information we hold about you, or enter this information if it was not supplied in your application.
- Please also take a moment to make sure your address details are correct and up to date. Even if you are staying in temporary accommodation we will need local contact details - your address can be updated in eVision later if you move.
- You will also need to agree to the University’s Code of Conduct and Declaration.
- The final stage of the task will confirm you are a fully matriculated student with the University.
You will be able to check your matriculation status via the Student Profile tab.
My Dundee
My Dundee is our virtual learning environment (VLE). Based on Blackboard Learn, it provides online areas for all your modules, including learning content, activities, assessment, as well as organisations for discipline and school information.
Once you have your My Dundee login details, install and use the Blackboard app:
- Blackboard App on Apple App store (iOS)
- Blackboard App on Google Play store (Android)
- My Dundee induction videos
- My Dundee resources and guides
Access to modules
Modules are not opened to students until the start date and you will not get access until then. You will receive an email confirmation of your first module, semester dates and a copy of the programme handbook at least one week prior to the start of the semester.
Guide to the VLE
There will be a pre-recorded Guide to the VLE for all new students to view at their convenience. This will be hosted by the Programme Manager, Dr Craig Gauld and will provide an overview of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), explain what is expected of you as a student, some policies and procedures, and welcome you to your studies with CAIS. The link to the pre-recorded session will be emailed out to all new students nearer commencement of the semester.
