Transferable Skills
A philosophy degree provides you with wide-ranging transferable skills which are an advantage in any professional career. You will be able to identify and explain the underlying issues in all kinds of debates. You will also learn to identify arguments from varied sources and traditions and respond to them clearly.

Studying philosophy will also equip you with knowledge of data and technology ethics, which is increasingly valued by employers. Businesses and governments worldwide are looking at how AI affects existing laws and the ethical considerations technology.
From copyright at the point of training AI models, to self-driving car collision detection, and when humans intervene in decision making, the need for philosophers in tech is huge.
Internships and the Humanities Expo
At the University of Dundee there are opportunities to undertake internships to gain valuable practical experience. You can also attend on campus events such as the Humanities Expo, an annual event packed full of career insights. This event is aimed specifically at Humanities undergraduates, where you get a chance to meet and chat with potential employers, such as Creative Scotland, V&A, STV Group (active in television production) and Amazon.
Localising Philosophy: An Ongoing Education Project
The Philosophy Programme at Dundee also has an ongoing education project working with both primary and secondary schools in the Dundee area, where MA (Hons) Philosophy students are placed into classrooms with support to lead philosophy classes.
Our Careers Service provides our students with far more than CV advice. From 30-hour micro-placements as part of modules, to gaining academic credit for improving employability skills we'll prepare you for your future career throughout your time at Dundee.

- This includes our Go Global fair to help secure a summer placement abroad.

- A dedicated careers adviser, specialising in your subject, who can provide one-to-one guidance, application support, and personalised practice interview support.
