Biological Science examines life in all forms, with a focus on the cellular level. Biomedical Science examines the function of the human body. It does so in both healthy and diseased scenarios, from the molecular level to full body systems.

This joint degree offers you a valuable opportunity to study with two leading institutions in the field of Life Sciences, the University of Dundee (Scotland) and the HAN University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands).

You will be equipped with significant laboratory practice, ready to tackle local and global health-related challenges, specifically around the development of large-molecule based therapeutic approaches and research.

Teaching in the first two years takes place at the HAN University in Nijmegen, where you will study general biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, together with studies in the chemical and physical sciences.

Here you will develop your technical laboratory and professional skills, with teaching largely taking place in the laboratory environment. The HAN focusses on practice-based learning, using projects that will help you apply the theory you’ve learned in practice.

In the last two years, teaching takes place at the University of Dundee. Here you will receive a more research-led approach to learning and teaching, with support from study advisers. You will develop skills in molecular, immunological and informatics approaches to the development of biologics as therapies, as well as developing the bio-enterprise and innovation skills you need to translate your research.

During your final year you will undertake a semester-long internship in a relevant company, giving you significant experience with life science employers in Scotland or internationally. This will be followed by advanced core courses in immunology and gene regulation and expression, as well as a selection from advanced courses in stem cell biology, molecular microbiology, bioinformatics, plant sciences, and/or parasitology.

Experience the best of two safe and lively student cities, both with diverse international communities, while learning from experts in the field of Life Sciences.
