Dundee’s 4 year LLB in Scots Law satisfies the academic component of training to become a solicitor or advocate in Scotland. On successful completion of the LLB, our graduates are eligible to start the one year vocational Diploma before commencing their traineeship.

Employability is key to all degrees at Dundee Law School.

The LLB Scots Law is recognised by the Law Society of Scotland for entry onto the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. This will allow you to pursue a career in the legal profession in Scotland, either as a solicitor or advocate.

At the University of Dundee Law Clinic, you can experience life as a working lawyer in a supervised environment. You can develop your skills, work with the community, and network while gaining valuable practical experience.

Our annual LLB Alumni Mentorship Programme enables current students to gain advice and career insights from alumni working in the area in which they wish to practice or work.

Working with our Careers Service, student law societies and alumni, we run regular workshops and seminars to help students prepare for vacation scheme applications, assessment centres and interviews. Careers and employability are built in to the curriculum at every stage.

Student law societies are very active in both providing a range of social activities and peer-support. Dundee Mooting Society runs internal competitions and hosts the annual Lord Jones Moot. They also send teams to compete throughout the UK. We also have some opportunities for you to take part in international mooting competitions. Academic credit may be given for these.

We also run an annual Law Fair which attracts law firms and employers from around the UK and further afield. Law firms also regularly visit for recruitment purposes

Dundee law graduates have gone onto secure traineeships and develop successful careers at home and abroad with leading firms and organisations. These include:

Our Scots law students have become advocates, barristers and members of the judiciary. They also go onto a range of other legal roles in Scotland such as Law Clerk to the Lord President and roles in legal academia.

Dundee graduates have also used their law degrees, and the transferable skills they have acquired, to achieve success in many other fields. These include:

  • working in regulatory bodies such as the Competition and Markets Authority
