Our English for International Students courses are accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK

Pre-sessional courses

If you have not yet met the English entry requirements for a degree course at the University, we offer summer and autumn pre-sessional programmes.

In-sessional courses

If you have met the English entry requirements for your course, but you would still like to improve your written and spoken English, we can help. Each semester, we offer free tuition for all students. In Semester 1 all classes will be held online, via Zoom. To register for your classes through EventBrite. You should remember to give your University email address when booking.

Our courses cover Academic Writing, Academic Speaking and Grammar and run for 10 weeks. If you attend 80% or more of the classes, you will receive a certificate of attendance.

The classes will be divided into two levels – Intermediate/Upper Intermediate for students with an IELTS score (or equivalent) of 6.0 and Advanced for students with an IELTS score higher than 6.5. Each class will last for one or two hours.

Each class will run once a week. For example, all the Advanced Writing classes in a week will cover the same material and be taught by the same tutor, they will just be offered at different times to suit your timetable. So, you could sign up for classes in Writing, Speaking, and Grammar, or just one or two of these. Registration opens at the beginning of the semester.

These classes are open to all students and staff whose first language is not English.
