This four month course allows students to study anatomy side by side with life drawing, sculpture and illustration. It is aimed both at artists who wish to study anatomy first hand from cadaver study as well as anatomists and other scientists who would like to enhance their knowledge through developing their artistic skills. Students will learn anatomy through dissection, prosection study, illustration and facial sculpture and apply this to life art practice. Students will also be introduced to research methods and digital media.

Anatomy for Artists at Dundee

This course is a dynamic collaboration bringing together expertise from both the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) and the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. (DJCAD).  

You can also study individual modules from a selection of CAHID programmes via our CPD programme.

This course is a dynamic collaboration bringing together expertise from both the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) and the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD). Dedicated studio space is provided along with access to Thiel dissection facilities - the first of their kind in the UK.

How you will be taught

The course is delivered through a variety of methods including lectures, practical sessions in the studio and dissection room, and small group discussions with an encouragement into debate and theoretical solutions to current problems.  

How you will be assessed

Anatomy spot-tests, portfolio assessment, and written coursework.

The focus is on learning anatomy through dissection, prosection study, illustration and facial sculpture and applying this to life art practice.  Students will also be introduced to research methods and digital media.

Equivalent of the 2:1 honours degree in a relevant discipline (art of science) plus a portfolio assessment
