Tony, formerly a postdoctoral researcher in SLS, was awarded a Sir Henry Dale Fellowship to start his independent research group at the Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology at the University of Edinburgh, but recently transferred his fellowship to Dundee.

Tony’s research group is interested in mass spectrometry technology development and applying these tools to discover new pathways that control cell proliferation. Current members of his group are addressing the following topics:

  • The molecular mechanisms controlling immunomodulation by CDK4/6 inhibitors and the restriction point in T cells
  • The role of the cyclin subunit and Cks1 in regulating CDK substrate preference across the cell division cycle
  • The quiescence versus senescence cell fate choice

Tony studied at the College of William and Mary (USA), where he earned a Bachelor’s in Chemistry. This was followed by a PhD in Chemistry at the University of California, Riverside (USA), and then postdoctoral work with Angus Lamond in SLS. His research interests span analytical chemistry and cell biology, which reflect the interdisciplinary training he received.

Tony is seeking a PhD student to carry out a research project in one of the research areas described above. For informal enquiries, please contact t.ly@dundee.ac.uk
