Venture 2020 Winners

Sixteen pitches took place at the Venture Competition on Thursday 27th February as part of this years Entrepreneurship Week. Competing over five categories for a win of the £28,500 prize fund. 

The Venture 2020 winners are as follows:

Student Award - £3,000

Aponsored by Business Gateway and Centre for Entrepreneurship

HoldFOrID - £2,000

Shivani Basnet from the School of Dentistry was awarded for her idea of a mechanical instrument for forensic dentistry that assists with the process of taking radiographs. 

Dent-Circle - £1,000

Priya Sekar from the School of Dentistry was the runner-up, and was awarded £1,000 for her plan to create a digital platform to tackle the major barriers in oral health - time, cost, dental anxiety, lack of awareness.

School of Science and Engineering Student Award - £5,000

Sponsored by University of Dundee's School of Science and Engineering and Engineers in Business Fellowship

Hip Implant "Pepper" - £5,000

Jekaterina Maksimova from School of Science and Engineering was awarded £5,000 for their her idea for her Hip Implant "Pepper" which is a hip implant for young people using a unique design and additive manufacturing.

School of Art and Design Student Award - £3,500 (including £1,000 awarded from the discretionary fund)

Niyama.co - £2,500

Danielle Stewart from School of Art and Design was awarded £2,500 for her business which is a sustainably sourced fashion brand. 

Alteara - £1,000

Anna Mitchelmore of Alteara from School of Art and Design was awarded £1,000 of the discretionary fund for her idea to a range of alternative leather watch straps grown from bacteria and yeast.

Recent Graduate Award - £3,000

Bonny Boards - £3,000

Malcolm Bradley Graduate of School of Art and Design was awarded £3,000 for ‌his business idea of skateboards made from cork and wood veneer.

Staff Award - £14,000

sponsored by University of Dundee's Talent and Development, School of Science and Engineering, School of Life Sciences and Centre for Entrepreneurship (including £4,000 awarded from the discretionary fund) 

MASK3D - £7,000

Phillip Vaughan staff member from School of Art and Design his team MASK3D were awarded £7,000 for their product replacing traditional thermoplastic radiotherapy masks with bespoke 3D printed models to increase treatment and accuracy.

Softech - £7,000

Dr Luigi Manfredi staff Member from the School of Medicine was awarded £7,000 for his product which is a novel and low-cost disposable soft colonoscope for a painless CRC screening.‌

Discretionary Fund of £5000

Sponsored by Elevator and DC Thomson which was decided by the judges to be added to the Staff Award and School of Art and Design Award categories.
