Science and Business Fellowship awarded to Alison McFarlane

Alison McFarlane, a final year PhD student, has been awarded a 2 year Science and Business Fellowship at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies Of Johnson & Johnson in Leiden, Netherlands.

Alison McFarlane, a final year PhD student in Dr Ignacio Moragas lab in the Division of Cell Signalling and Immunology has been awarded a 2 year Science and Business Fellowship at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies Of Johnson & Johnson in Leiden, Netherlands.  

The Science & Business Fellowship started in June 2022 and is aimed at developing business and leadership skills, in addition to expanding research experience. In this way participants can develop into the (scientific) leaders of the future.  

“I applied for the fellowship as I have always been passionate about emerging health technologies and business. Since the COVID pandemic we have all seen the impact science has had on the world and I knew I wanted to remain on the scientific edge of technology. To be offered the opportunity was really amazing, Ignacio my PhD supervisor encouraged me to take it too and I am so excited to get started! Dundee has really shaped me and my scientific career, the scientific community in Dundee is incredibly inspiring!” Alison explained. 

Over the next two years Alison will work as a contracted scientific researcher within various projects on new methods and processes for the development of vaccines within Janssen. In addition, she will contribute to various projects outside of ‘typical’ research.
