Platinum Informatics make the final of Converge Challenge

The newest spin-out company from the School, Platinum Informatics Ltd, has already been recognised by Converge Challenge who aim to create a new generation of entrepreneurs in Scotland. The company founded by Professor Angus Lamond and Rob Kent has made the final for the Converge Challenge award category for those with an established idea. The company looks to maximise the efficiency and productivity of the modern workplace by enabling access to Big Data Technology. 

Renowned venture capitalist and serial investor, Paul Atkinson, founder of Par Equity and a member of the Converge Challenge Strategic Advisory Board, believes that high calibre of entries this year is a direct result of Scotland’s Higher Education Institutions’ continued support of innovative projects and ideas. He had this to say; “Converge Challenge is a transformative programme which combines business support, training and mentoring as a complete package to support the business creation process. This sets Converge Challenge apart as Scotland’s most prestigious company creation programme for our academic community. It continuous to nurture disruptive innovative companies generating a much needed pipeline of high quality investable propositions.”

The company was shortlisted as part of a list of 30 companies back in the Spring. Since then the participants have progressed through an extensive programme of support that is critical to enable them to further develop their business propositions. Firstly, there was business training which includes: 1-2-1 bespoke advice; enhanced business and pitch training; and hands-on mentoring. A business plan was then submitted which will allowed the judging panel to select the finalists who will deliver an investor pitch. The winners will be announced at the Awards dinner on 20 September where a total prize fund of over £160,000 of cash and in-kind business support will be available for the winners.
