New report published by University of Dundee team
Published on 27 February 2023
The report will contribute to the refresh of the Scottish Government's 2019 Learning for Sustainability Action Plan.

A new report has been published by a team lead by Dr Kumara Ward and including Rosamonde Birch, Tanya MacDonald, Dr Liz Lakin, Dr Marie Beresford Dey, Dr Martin Purcell and Dr Beverley Searle at the University of Dundee. The report will contribute to the refresh of the Scottish Government's 2019 Learning for Sustainability Action Plan. It is based on research conducted across Scotland about the experiences of young people (14+) and practitioners (teachers and community learning and development [CLD] leaders) into their experiences of Learning for Sustainability through the Curriculum for Excellence. The report objectives were to:
- further the understanding of how LfS is understood and implemented by schools and CLD workforce
- learn from LfS ‘best practice’ taking place around the system
- allow the voices of young people and practitioners to feed directly into LfS policy and the ‘refresh’ of the Action Plan
- understand the successes and challenges LfS has faced since 2019
- consider the impact of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) on LfS
