Chidozie was shortlisted for 2021 Venture Postgraduate Researcher Award. His project was related to develop high quality images on canvas material.

Chidozie’s research is focused on Radiogenomics in prostate cancer and the use of radiographic images to reduce invasive procedures in the management of Prostate cancer.

What did you do before starting your research degree at Dundee?

I am a Nigerian trained Medical Doctor and a lecturer in Human Anatomy in a state University in Nigeria. I also hold a master’s degree in Human Anatomy before starting my PhD program at the University of Dundee.

What is the focus of your current research?

The focus of my research is on Radiogenomics in prostate cancer which is about the relationship between radiographic imaging features in prostate cancer and its genomic sequencing.

Basically, I will be combining a large volume of quantitative data extracted from Multiparametric Magnet Resonance Images (mpMRI) of prostate cancer with its gene expression which will be used to develop predictive model through deep learning.

What first got you interested in your research topic?

I have always had interest in both medical and non-medical images.

I am good in both fine art, graph designing and photography but as a medical doctor and a researcher the idea of using medical images for classification, diagnosis and treatment of disease condition have always been of interest to me.

What has been the most positive aspect of your research degree so far?

Getting approval from my department to proceed with my research.

What has been the most challenging aspect so far?

Experiencing delay in my laboratory work following the first Covid-19 lockdown.

How are you hoping your research will benefit others?

I hope to develop imaging biomarkers that can help improve patient’s stratification, guide therapeutic strategies, and evaluation of clinical outcomes in prostate cancer. Therefore, reducing invasive procedures in the management of Prostate cancer

What advice would you give to other postgraduate researchers

To always be focused, determined and to always participate in the regular Talent and Development programs.
