Dundee scientists among world’s key influencers
Published on 15 November 2022
Six University of Dundee researchers have been included in a new list of the world’s most influential academics.
The annual list uses both quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify individuals from across the globe who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their chosen field or fields of research. It is drawn from papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index over the past decade.
The Dundee academics named in the prestigious list are:
- Professor Dario Alessi (Life Sciences)
- Professor Albena Dinkova-Kostova (Medicine)
- Professor Grahame Hardie (Life Sciences)
- Professor Blair Smith (Medicine)
- Professor John Peters (Life Sciences)
- Professor John Raven (Life Sciences)
Professor Iain Gillespie, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, said, “Dundee is home to research of global significance and we continue to punch well above our weight in this area. For six of the University’s academics to be named on this list alongside researchers from some of the world’s famous academic institutions is testament to their innovation and excellence.
“They have all contributed greatly to our mission to transform lives through the creation, sharing and application of knowledge, and their inclusion is richly deserved.”
The methodology that determines the “who’s who” of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at Clarivate’s Institute for Scientific Information. The list also identifies the research institutions and regions where they are based.
David Pendlebury, Head of Research Analysis at the Institute, said, “Research fuels the race for knowledge, and it is important that nations and institutions celebrate the individuals who drive the wheel of innovation.
“The Highly Cited Researchers list identifies and celebrates exceptional individual researchers at the University of Dundee who are having a significant impact on the research community as evidenced by the rate at which their work is being cited by their peers. These individuals are helping to transform human ingenuity into our world’s greatest breakthroughs – and it is an honour to celebrate their achievements.”
