Congratulations to the winners

Congratulations to our colleague Professor Blair Smith who is the winner of the Society for Academic Primary Care (SAPC) Principal Investigator/Medical Educator of the Year award for 2023. SAPC is the leading organisation for academic primary care in the UK and Ireland.

“All the nominees showed their incredible support for early career academics and shows what a wonderful group of senior academics we have in primary care to support and encourage earlier career staff. The supporting statement that the nominee wrote showed though how much above and beyond Blair supported the ECA during an incredibly difficult time and the impact this had on enabling the nominee to continue from their academic GP training all the way through to successfully being awarded their PhD showed his dedication which went well above and beyond and is a worthy winner of the award.”

Dr Becci Morris, lead for the SAPC early career academic working group

Congratulations also go to Dr Sarah Mills (University of St Andrews) who won the SAPC Doctoral Prize 2023 for her PhD work on the use of unscheduled care by people who die from cancer. Although Dr Mills is now at the University of St Andrews, this award has been based on the work she carried out while here at the University of Dundee.

Great work from both Professor Smith and Dr Mills.
