Dominica from Ghana discusses her experience of studying at Dundee.

“I found out about the University of Dundee through a local radio station in my country called Joy FM. I decided to study in the University of Dundee because I had read and watched good things being said about the university. It was said to be prestigious, safe and friendly for international students to feel at home while studying. Secondly, my International Engagement Officer always kept in touch (communication was the best) and was available to clear my doubts about surviving in a new country. I was also motivated by the fact that the Late Former President of the Republic of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings’ daughter Amina Rawlings attended the University of Dundee as well.

“My time studying here since I arrived in January 2021 has been great. From the general university staff and staff from the School of Business have been very helpful, understanding and wonderful to me in aspects of my studies and personal development. Everyone in the university is welcoming and really nice that sometimes I am astonished that there are still kind people in this world and the country of origin does not change the way you are treated. It is so incredible.

“The best things about my course are my lecturers and the opportunity to take part in an internship program organised by the School of Business and Pagoda Projects for my final project report. ”

“The city of Dundee is a calm, safe, peaceful and scenic city especially with a beautiful waterfront. It is also quite small with shops being a walking distance away which is good for someone like me who loves walking everywhere.

“I am currently engaged in an internship program organised by the School of Business and Pagoda Projects in relation to my final project report. So far, the experience has been quite good and hoping to acquire the necessary work experience for future job placements.

“The teaching staff at the university are open, friendly and reliable. Whenever I did not understand a particular topic or assignment and I reached out to the lecturer in charge of that module, in-depth solutions were always provided with clarity and practicality.

The facilities at the university are ultramodern and upgraded to the current changes in technology advancement. I mostly use the library. It is my happy place on campus because every reading material pertaining to academic work is made available just by request. The library environment is really unique, modern and well organised.

I used the Careers Service when I had to update and modify my CV to the UK style for the internship program (School of Business and Pagoda Projects). My experience was great because I had a one-on-one session with a counsellor over Microsoft Teams and she guided me through the whole process. It was effective because at the end, I got the internship opportunity with the company.

“My future plans are to either continue with my education and hopefully gain admission to study a PhD program at the University of Dundee or secure employment in a UK company or academic institution to apply what I have been taught in my modules, personal development and gain the work experience needed to thrive in my future prospects. This would enable me to contribute to the growth and development of my home country.”
