Business Analytics and beyond: My path from Dundee to the Public Sector
Baliqis, a 2024 graduate of MSc Business Analytics at the University of Dundee, shares how her time at the School of Business shaped her personally and professionally

Hi, I’m Baliqis Akanni A.K.A. Nihin. I am a proud Nigerian Ibadan girl and graduate of the MSc Business Analytics programme from the University of Dundee School of Business, Class of 2024. I’m currently working as a Technical Support Officer in the public sector, but my Dundee journey is where everything truly came together.
I chose Dundee because I wanted more than just a degree, I wanted growth. And I found it. The School of Business gave me technical skills in data and decision-making, but more than that, it helped me step into rooms I never imagined I’d be in. I like to say I’m one of God’s favourites — I also put in the work.
During my time in Dundee, I worked as the Vice President of Student Wellbeing (VPSW) at DUSA and also served as a trustee, where I advocated for student mental health, led wellbeing campaigns, and represented the student voice at high-level meetings (e.g. DUSA Board and University Senate).

Being part of the DUSA Exec team showed me the heart behind the student experience — the staff and reps working daily to make Dundee feel like home. I also volunteered with NHS Ninewells and Nightline, both of which deepened my compassion and gave me a better understanding of community care.
All of it added up! Every role, every hour, every sticky note I wrote to organise my life. And through it all, I stayed grounded in who I am: a caring, light-hearted, resilient person who somehow always ends up in the right place.

And I have to add, my favourite lecturer was Charles Turkson, who also served as my academic advisor. He genuinely cared for every student’s success and was always ready to help.

To anyone considering Dundee: do it! Bring your full self. That’s how you find the magic.
