Join us as a simulated patient

We are currently looking to recruit volunteers to give their time to act as simulated patients, to assist medical and nursing students in the development of their communication and examination skills.

As a simulated patient, you will be a critical part of our education and training programmes, providing ‘real life’ learning experiences for our students to gain confidence and competence in a safe simulated environment.

What to expect

Volunteers are from the community who give their time to allow healthcare students to speak to and examine them.

You will:

  • be involved in examination teaching and communication skills teaching, but some individuals prefer to stick to one
  • provide the opportunity for students to practice in a safe learning environment in preparation for seeing real patients during their clinical placements
  • contribute to both teaching and assessment sessions

How much time the role involves is entirely up to you, and we are grateful for any help you are willing to give.

Training

There is no requirement for prior training or experience. All we ask is that you are willing to help, are reliable and bring some enthusiasm to the sessions.  We will provide training once you have signed up.

Come to one of our induction training sessions via the form below.  This will give you a clear idea of the role and there is no obligation to commit.
