The course is aimed at surgeons and senior trainees who wish to advance their laparoscopic skills to perform advanced colorectal procedures.
It will be best suited to those who have experience of conventional lower GI procedures, are already competent in routine laparoscopic cases (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia etc) and have early experience with laparoscopic resections.
This will be an intensive hands-on experience using the tried and tested animal and hybrid models developed in the centre, with a high faculty to delegate ratio, individualising training needs.
Focussed on skills acquisition aiming to understand and improve surgeon and assistant ergonomics, improve use of traction and counter traction to open planes, understand and improve suturing capability.
Build-up of skills in various models leading to anterior resection and circular stapled anastomosis in a unique insufflated calf torso model followed by stapled side to side intracorporeal anastomosis.
Video based step by step guides, how I do it sessions, interactive faculty discussion sessions on difficult and controversial topics – CME, splenic flexure mobilisation, complex diverticular disease and minimal access in emergencies.
