Design Thinking: Insights to Innovation - Upskilling Module

Introduces Design Thinking as a mindset, process, and toolkit to address contemporary challenges in creative and structured ways
A limited number of fully funded places are available for eligible Scottish applicants through the Scottish Government's Upskilling Fund.
If you are living in Scotland and are currently:
- unemployed and seeking work
- at risk of redundancy or your job under threat as a result of Covid-19 or the economic impact of EU Exit
- employed and have identified a skills gap in their current job
then you can apply for a fully funded place.
Over the last 10-15 years, design practice has spread its domain of activities into wider fields, where the value of the process is equally important to stimulating the innovation of new products and services.
This module will provide you with a hands-on introduction to Design Thinking as an approach to creative problem-solving.
You will gain insights into how Design Thinking is being used by designers and non-design professionals to drive forward ingenuity and innovation in academic, commercial, and business practices.
You will leave the module with:
- an introduction to Design Thinking and case studies with real world examples
- an understanding of some of the core principles and frameworks of Design Thinking
- an appreciation of design led methods to help rethink and reframe problems
- an insight into how to connect with people through online visualisation
Teaching
This course is delivered online at postgraduate level. It is credit-bearing, and therefore requires a full-time commitment of four weeks.
Assessment
You will be assessed using:
- practical work
- written assignments
- oral presentations
An undergraduate degree OR relevant professional experience
