Laughing and crying in infancy
How infants develop laughing and crying over the first months and years? Do they really change how they laugh and cry?
Our lab is looking for parents, caretakers, who could provide previously collected audio-samples of their babies’ laughing and crying.
Optimally, we are looking for samples from the first months of life and also, later after the child started speaking, but any samples from any time of the baby’s life would be helpful for analyses.
If you could help, please follow the link (or cut/paste the url link). Thank you!
Music and Me: Call for children’s drawings
Although the main deadline is over, we are still accepting drawings!
How children related to music? Do they like music? How they view the role of music in their lives? Do they think about music?
We are looking for interesting, expressive, age-appropriate children’s drawings that tell us about their relationship with music. The drawings are completely free. Any size or technique can be used. We welcome drawings from every child; not only from those participating in early music education. We particularly welcome drawings from babies and toddlers.
Submission: Please see the detailed instructions as where and how to submit a drawing, in the link below.
The link for submission is below. This is linked to a background questionnaire that would greatly help us when understanding the drawings.
If you prefer to submit only the drawing and not to fill in the questionnaire, here is the link for submission. Only the child’s gender, age and a title of the drawing would be needed. It all can be in the file-name (for example: boy, 3 years, Musical sunshine).
Study on music and infant development
Parents of babies: please help us to learn about music and babies by filling in the following questionnaire.
Hello! My name is Zhiying Zhang. I am a student at the University of Dundee in Scotland, studying for my master’s degree in psychology. My supervisor is Dr Emese Nagy from the University of Dundee. To complete my dissertation, I would like to recruit some volunteers to complete the following survey, which includes questions about the milestones your baby has reached and questionnaires to measure the baby’s music, sleep, and daily behaviour.
Eligibility Criteria
Caretakers (18 years or above) of babies aged 0-24 months of age.
Privacy Protection
All information provided will be kept continental and anonymous, and no names will be required at any point. The only people who will have access to the data provided will be me and my supervisor Emese Nagy.
Possible Benefits
The benefits of taking part in this study are mainly for society to gain an understanding of how babies are exposed to music in the first 2 years of life, and how music affects their early development.
Payment
The volunteers who participate in the survey do not need to pay, and the researchers do not pay the volunteers.
