STRADE
The Strategic Dialogue on Sustainable Raw Materials for Europe (STRADE) addresses the long-term security and sustainability of the European raw-material supply from European and non-European countries

Using a dialogue-based approach, the project brings together governments, industry and civil society to deliver policy recommendations for an innovative European strategy on future EU mineral raw-material supplies.
The project holds environmental and social sustainability as its foundation in its approach to augmenting the security of the European Union mineral raw-material supply and enhancing competitiveness of the EU mining industry.
Over a three year period (2016-2018), the STRADE Consortium of 7 partners, funded by the Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Union, brings together practical experience, legislation, best practice technologies and know-how by addressing:
- Strengthening the European raw-materials sector
- A European cooperation strategy with resource-rich countries
- Internationally sustainable raw-material production & supply
The CEPMLP contribution was on mining and minerals governance and sustainability. Dr Ana Bastida was, specifically, the CEPMLP project lead.

The Consortium comprises:
Oeko-Institut e. V., a research and consultancy institute, develops principles and strategies for achieving sustainable development globally, nationally and locally.
The SNL Financial AB consultancy offers a comprehensive overview and holistic analysis of the mining industry’s current and future state in emerging and developed economies.
The Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) of the University of Dundee (Scotland, UK) offers mining and oil & gas expertise.
Projekt-Consult GmbH designs and helps implement approaches and policy strategies for international cooperation in renewable energy & energy efficiency and mining & mineral resources.
The consultancy DMT Kai Batla provides a comprehensive and diverse set of professional services to an international client base in the minerals and mining sector.
GEORANGE, a non-profit organization, seeks to expand the concept of “development” in the mining and minerals industry by promoting better use of ore and mineral resources.
The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) brings together academics and researchers from the mining and economics fields.
