International Energy Law and Policy involves the global regulation and governance of energy resources. It encompasses legal frameworks and policies. These address the extraction, production, distribution and consumption of energy. It aims to ensure energy security, promote sustainable development, and mitigate environmental impacts.

You will learn how government decisions on the provision of energy are structured and enforced. You will also learn how the rules and agreements link together to access energy and take it to the consumer.

This course focuses on electricity and gas, with options to study hydrocarbon production. You'll examine topics such as:

  • how energy is regulated
  • the legal structure of the electricity and gas industries
  • the liberalisation of energy markets

You will learn about the pressures of energy transition, such as using gas as a bridge to a more renewable power. You will also study energy disputes and dispute resolution. You will also cover the influences of environmental standards between different countries.

Studying International Energy Law and Policy LLM equips you with specialised knowledge of global energy markets, regulations, and policies. This knowledge is crucial in today's energy-dependent world.
