Graduates from the Dual Qualifying LLM have used the skills they have acquired from studying International Commercial Law in the UK and France to pursue careers in a wide variety of sectors, including:

  • legal practice
  • banking
  • the judiciary
  • state ministries and decentralized administrations
  • international organisations
  • academia
  • NGOs

When you join Dundee Law School you will have access to dedicated careers support, both during and after your studies, through the Careers Service.  This includes 1-1 advice on constructing your cv and preparing for interviews.  Students also benefit from the guidance of our academics who have a wide range of international insights and experience from legal practice.  We maintain strong connections with our Alumni who have run careers focused Q&A sessions and many are also involved in Mentoring.

Internships

You may apply for and take part in internships to gain valuable practical experience. Our students have succeeded in securing prestigious internships in a range of international organisations, including the Council of the European Union, the European Court of Human Rights and the Hague Conference on Private International Law.  And for some, internships can lead directly to a full time paid role.

“My course at the University of Dundee made me much better at critical legal thinking, legal writing and - of course - legal English. All of these skills were invaluable for my further career. I have specialised in oil and gas law, and have worked both in-house and for several of the biggest commercial law firms in Norway. In 2019 I joined my current firm, Wikborg Rein, as a partner. Wikborg Rein is one of four traditional tier one firms in Norway, and the most international Norwegian law firm with offices in Oslo, Bergen, London, Singapore and Shanghai.”

“After graduation I returned to the law firm where I worked and became partner. I joined the public sector in 2015 as Senior Legal Adviser to Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), managers of Nigeria's sovereign wealth fund. I have been involved in entire gamut of NSIA's operations, from investments to regulatory compliance to stakeholder engagement. This has given me the opportunity to participate in the structuring, documentation and implementation of some of the most important infrastructure projects being undertaken across diverse sectors in Nigeria in the last six years.”
