Infertility is a global issue, with approximately one in seven couples of reproductive age, around 80 million people worldwide, having difficulties to conceive. Therefore, there is an increasing worldwide demand for assisted reproductive technology (ART) and growing opportunities for careers in this field.

This course provides you with the wide-ranging education required to run a successful ART service, including training in basic science, embryology, andrology, clinical and controversial issues, and business management. You will also explore research in reproductive medicine, designing and undertaking your own research project. There will be a joint clinical and laboratory focus, having fostered a dynamic collaboration with a busy clinical ART centre at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

In recognition of the need for a more flexible online approach to learning, especially for those continuing in employment, the teaching will take place asynchronously online. We will maintain our close NHS links through a combination of interactive teaching. This will give you a strong understanding of clinical procedure alongside the scientific process, and how what happens in the laboratory can affect your patient experience.

You will be taught by a mixture of experienced faculty, including scientists, clinicians, embryologists, andrologists, counsellors and business managers. Our Distinguished Speakers Series gives you access to world leaders in the field of embryology and ART as they give seminars on their area of expertise. This will give you the well-rounded knowledge and skills to develop your career in ART.

We also offer other versions of this course to suit your career goals and circumstances:

  • Postgraduate Diploma (part time distance learning – 120 credits)
  • MSc (part time distance learning – 180 credits)
