Political Staffer Resource Centre

Research-driven recommendations, advice and support for political advisers, their managers, and advocates for reform

Welcome to the Political Staffer Resource Centre.

This is an open access resource developed from academic research by Professor Jennifer Lees-Marshment at The University of Dundee.

It is focused on raising awareness, sharing peer wisdom, offering practical tools and supporting reform in how political staffer and advisers are managed. It provides practical guidance and information for staffers themselves, those who manage them, and those from parties, parliaments and the public/civil service who work in close association with them.

Below you will find out more information about the research and can sign up to gain access to the resources free of charge.

The Political Staffer Resource Centre shares the recommendations generated by the research project The Human Resource Management of Political Staffers by Professor Jennifer Lees-Marshment.

These recommendations were generated by asking political staffers and those working in close association with them what best practices they had experienced, observed and developed over time. They are therefore grounded in reality, or ‘doable’ when working within the constraints of politics and government.

About the Research

This research focused on how to make the human resource management of political advisers/staffers more effective by capturing best practices developed within individual political offices.
