The inflammatory response to recurrent hypoglycaemia in diabetes

Funding availability

Unfunded

Application deadline

31 May 2028

Recurrent hypoglycaemia has both acute and chronic consequences and is greatly feared by people with type 1 diabetes. Work from our laboratory in rodent models has shown that glycaemic variability, the alteration between hyper- and hypoglycaemia has persisting effects on systemic inflammatory markers that may contribute the increased risk of micro and macrovascular disease.

In this project the student will use flow cytometry and other techniques to examine inflammatory markers in people with type 1 and 2 diabetes with and without increased glycaemic variability.
