Biography

Dr Svetlana Zolotovskaya is a Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering. Her areas of research expertise include photonics materials and devices, applied laser technology, spectroscopy and biomedical photonics. In the past, she worked on the development and characterisation of novel optical materials containing CuxSe and PbS nanoparticles, and InGaAs/GaAs materials systems for photonic switching devices. She has also undertaken research into light-induced processes in biological tissue and biomedical applications of laser systems. Some of her research activities were focused on the application of structured optical fields for coherent control of plasmonic structures, Raman spectroscopy, and photo-activation of molecular oxygen inorganic solutions of singlet oxygen traps and living cellular systems. For the past four years, she has been involved in the development of applied laser techniques for surface engineering of metals, ceramics and composite materials for applications ranging from composite substrates for SERS to antibacterial surfaces.

Key research interests include:

  • Materials engineering & characterisation
  • Biomedical photonics
  • Applied laser technology
  • Photonic materials and devices
