Sean Yu

Sang-hun Sean Yu is a lecturer and Programme Director for the MSc Animation & VFX at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD), University of Dundee. With over a decade of experience spanning both industry and academia, his work bridges creative practice, technical expertise, and research innovation in the fields of animation and visual effects.

Sean began his professional career as a 2D/3D animator at INK Digital, where he contributed to a wide range of commercial and feature animation projects, including The Illusionist (Oscar and Golden Globe nominee for Best Animated Feature, 2011) and Titeuf: le film. His commercial credits include animation work for clients such as the Scottish Government, Cartoon Network, ScotRail, and Irn-Bru.
Since joining DJCAD, Sean has held various teaching and support roles before being appointed Programme Director in 2022. He teaches across technical and creative aspects of 3D animation while supporting postgraduate students in developing high-quality portfolios and original projects tailored to industry standards.

His research focuses on the intersection of immersive technologies, animation, and forensic science. He is currently undertaking a part-time PhD through the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science, exploring the use of photogrammetry and virtual reality in the documentation and reconstruction of crime scenes. His co-authored publication “Development of a Dundee Ground Truth Imaging Protocol for Recording Indoor Crime Scenes to Facilitate Virtual Reality Reconstruction” (Science & Justice, 2023) reflects this interdisciplinary engagement (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.scijus.2023.01.001).

Sean's work has received national recognition, including the Scottish Institute for Policing Research Early Career Impact Award (2023) and the Herald Higher Education Award for Innovative Use of Technology (2023). He was also shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year (2023).

He holds an MSc in Animation & Visualisation, a BA (Hons) in Animation & Electronic Media from DJCAD, and a BA in Animation from Kaywon University of Art and Design, Korea.
