Biography

Dr Renata Filipe Soares is the Mass Spectrometry Facilities Manager in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC PPU), where she supports proteomics projects for MRC PPU researchers and collaborators. She also serves as the interim manager of the University’s FingerPrints Proteomics facility, overseeing mass spectrometry services for internal researchers and external partners, thereby supporting proteomics initiatives across the School of Life Sciences and beyond.

Renata specialises in mass spectrometry and its related applications, including proteomics workflows such as qualitative and quantitative MS analyses and protein post-translational modifications, enabling high-quality data generation and collaborative method development.

She joined the MRC PPU in 2018, leading a small team of technical scientists dedicated to supporting a wide range of mass spectrometry-based approaches within the unit.

Prior to joining the University of Dundee, Renata worked for three years at Imperial College London as a Research Associate in Imaging Mass Spectrometry, where she led the DESI-mass spectrometry imaging team.

Before moving to the UK, she held an Auxiliary Research position for four years, following a four-year Postdoctoral appointment, both in a proteomics and mass spectrometry facility laboratory in Portugal.

Renata earned her PhD in 2007 from King’s College London, where she focused on proteomics applied to microbiology.
