Biography

Margo Williamson has been a leader in public services for most of career. Her most recent role was Chief Executive of Angus Council from 2017 - 2024. In this role she was accountable for, and delivery of, the leadership and strategic management of all Council Services. Over the period of her leadership, despite contracting resources, improvements in all key performance areas were returned. She was the Returning Officer for the General Election, Scottish Elections and local government elections. 

Prior to this role, she took up the post of Strategic Director of People’s Services in Angus after moving from Head of Education Services in South Ayrshire. She is a qualified teacher with considerable experience working at a local and national government level. This included working as a National Programme Director for Curriculum age 3 - 18. Earlier in her career, she was a senior lecturer in University of Dundee where she completed her M.Phil (Education Research).

Throughout her professional life she has always found ways of championing young people, advocating for their participation in decision making and developments. She has considerable experience of transformational change, risk management and the leadership of innovation, including the Tay Cities Economic Growth Deal.

Her recent voluntary roles include being a trustee with Young Scot and holding the position of  Board Member and Vice Chair of the Board of Management at Dundee & Angus College for 12 years.

She is currently a tutor with Columba 1400, a charity and social enterprise, focused on leadership in young people, communities and public sector and third sector senior leaders.
