Biography

Mr Hossain-Ibrahim qualified from University College London, UK, where he also completed a PhD studying spinal cord regeneration. He completed his neurosurgical training in Birmingham, UK and undertook a neuro-oncology fellowship at King’s College Hospital in London prior to working as a locum consultant neurosurgeon in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Mr. Hossain-Ibrahim then undertook a neuro-oncology fellowship studying immunotherapy and skull base surgery at Duke University Medical Center, USA prior to starting in Dundee in 2014, where he has already won a Bronze award for (Outstanding Individual - clinical) in the 2017 NHS Tayside Star Awards. His primary interests are neuro-oncology, including translational research in this field and skull base surgery. He is a NRS Research Fellow, with a Tenovus grant to study a novel drug that targets multiple cancer pathways to be tested on glioblastoma - a currently incurable brain tumour - at the Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre, with Gareth Inman. He is also launching a UoD initiative to purchase a focused ultrasound scanner to start trials of incision-less 'outpatient' neurosurgery to treat neurological tremors (e.g. in Parkinson's disease and MS), as well as currently inoperable brain tumours.
