Dr McConville is an academic general practitioner. Graduating at the University of Dundee (MBChB, 1998). He also holds DRCOG, DFSRH, FRCGP, Masters in Medical Education and an Educational Doctorate. He has worked as a previous 'GP with a specialist Interest' in substance misuse, with SIGN (Obesity) guidelines development and multiple roles within the Royal College of General Practitioners.
is research interests are in mental health, student support /performance management , professionalism and medical education. He has worked for the University in a variety of teaching and leadership roles across the medical education spectrum since August 2011. He is a member of the staff LGBT+ network, Equality & Diversity champions group and is a University of Dundee harassment adviser.
Dr McConville's predominant interests are in behavioural sciences and medical education. His MMedEd focussed on psychological elements associated with medical students' entry to university utilising a sports psychology tool. His professional doctorate in education has applied a sociological lens via symbolic interactionism to explore the professional identity formation of GP trainers. He has also been involved in multiple projects that focus on the spectrum of Medical Education from undergraduate to postgraduate level.
