Biography

Dr Sayed is a Senior honorary lecturer - Medical School - Dundee University and Consultant Obstetrics & Gynaecology. He acquired extensive experience working in tertiary units and university hospitals in the United Kingdom, which had a strong impact on consolidating his many years of clinical experience in obstetrics and Gynaecology. He was admitted as a member of the Royal College in London in 2006

His special interests are, Maternal medicine, high-risk pregnancy, Advanced laparoscopy and Medical education

In addition to his extensive clinical experience his current and previous roles include:

  • Undergraduate lead for medical school in Obstetrics and Gynaecology pip - Dundee University
  • OSCE examiner and member of the medical school board of examinations
  • Chair guidelines & Protocols Committee
  • Elected member Scottish Committee for the Royal College
  • Member of Maternity & Improvement Committee & risk management committees
  • Founding member Enhanced Recovery Obstetrics
  • Elected member UK ELG liaison committee
  • Honorary Secretary Northern Obstetrics and Gynaecology society
  • External Advisor for Consultant interviews workforce directorate Scottish government

Dr Sayed is the author various textbook chapters including ‘Mastering the MRCOG’, ‘A Survival guide to obstetrics and Gynaecology’ (awarded winner of the Annual FAME Awards by the Faculty of Medical Educators), Contributor to SBA Questions for part 2 MRCOG handbook

Dr Sayed is passionate about medical education locally and nationally at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition to being the lead for medical school, he is part of the Organizing Committee for the annual Senior staff conference for Scotland and Organizer MRCOG part 2 courses Scotland, Nationally part of the RCOG question-writing group. On a trust level, he is PROMPT and ALSO (Advanced Life support in Obstetrics) instructor, Lead Consultant in OTEC (Obstetric Emergency Training course).

Research

Dr Sayed previously held the roles of Principal Investigator - trust level- for various multinational research trials including PROMISE PREP, FACT. Publications include A randomised controlled trial of oral versus vaginal misoprostol for medical management of early fetal demise. Currently, work includes Choice of Primary Outcomes in Studies Evaluating Interventions for the Management of Ectopic Pregnancy: A Systematic Review.

Teaching

Previous and current roles of Dr Sayed include

  • Undergraduate lead for Obstetrics and Gynaecology pip - Dundee University. Organization & development of the programme for undergraduates in obstetrics and gynaecology ensuring integration of teaching into the future demands of clinical service

  • PROMPT and ALSO (Advanced Life support in Obstetrics) instructor, Lead Consultant in OTEC (Obstetric Emergency Training course), Anatomy training for using Thiel Cadavers and Lectures in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for Dundee medical School and Grand rounds
