Biography

Dr Hennayake obtained her bachelor’s degree at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

She then worked as a Horticulturist for Flower Seed Company, a subsidiary of Norvaties.

She has completed Master’s and PhD at Kobe University, Japan working on Fruit and Ornamental Plant Sciences.

In 2006, she moved to the UK and worked as a part time research assistant in College of Life Sciences at University of Dundee and Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI/ JHI), Scotland.

In 2011 she joined Dundee Cell Products, Biotechnology Company in Dundee as a Molecular Biologist working on cloning & gene synthesis service providing customer requested vectors and gene products in various genetic portfolios.

In 2015, Dr Hennayake moved to the Cardiovascular and Diabetes Medicine department of the school of medicine to undertake a Research Technician position in Dr Li Kang’s lab which aims to understand complications associated with type 2 diabetes using in-vitro and in-vivo research models.

Research

Dr Hennayake is responsible for number of projects and studying various aspects of metabolic dysfunction in-vitro and in-vivo focusing on pathogenesis of insulin resistance type 2 diabetes.

She is currently involved in number of mice phenotyping studies accessing the response of different genotypes to metabolic stress factors such as high fat feeding.
