Bishop Andrew Swift has been the Scottish Episcopal Church Bishop of Brechin, centred in Dundee, for just over seven years. As Bishop he has particular interest in clergy and staff wellbeing, healthy handling of conflict and constructive ways that church communities can build trust and be helped to change.
He has a focus on working with local church leaders to find long-term solutions to achieve personnel and financial sustainability in churches. At national church level he is the Convener of the Scottish Episcopal Institute Council, the Theological Education Institute for the church, as well as serving on other strategic governance boards and committees.
Before coming to Dundee he ministered in the Diocese of Argyll and The Isles and the Diocese of Gloucester. Prior to ordained ministry he had careers as a shipbuilding executive, an Admiralty research engineer and was a junior officer in the RAF in the 1980s. He has degrees from the Universities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Oxford.
